Author Interview – David Jester
Posted on Wednesday, July 3, 2013
Can you share a little of your current work with us? I have a few books on the go. The newest one will be published under my other pen name in the next few weeks. The next David Jester book will probably be a series of flash fiction pieces. After that I have a comedy novel about a hapless vigilante or a horror novel. I’m not sure which I’ll devote my time to finishing first.
Can you tell us about your main character? The main character is the community itself, although I do devote more time to Patrick Ryan, the head of the community, than anyone else. He’s young and has had a bit of a troublesome past, but he is trusted and respected by the others, so he’s the one they turn to when the murders begin.
Who designed the cover? My fiancée designs all my covers. She’s really good. I don’t think I give her enough credit, but she deserves it.
Why did you choose to write this particular book? I was having a hard time with a thriller novel that I was working on. I needed a break so I started writing Evergreen. As soon as I started I couldn’t stop. A couple of days later I’d finished the first draft, and was a little disappointed that it was over.
What was the hardest part about writing this book? This book was a pleasure to write from beginning to end. It didn’t take long and I really got into it. I think the hardest part was working out who the killer was. I tend not to plot out the book before I write it, I prefer not to know what happens, otherwise it can become tedious. You don’t want to know the entire plot before you read a book or you’ll lose interest in it, for me the same applies to writing it.
How do you promote this book? I don’t do much to promote the books. I try to get as much exposure as I can and I will try to promote it through social networks and Kindle sites, but there are very few methods that actually work. I have had plenty of success In the past with other books, but I’m not really sure what I did to achieve it.
Evergreen is the peaceful, idyllic home for a bustling traveler community. It is home to Patrick Ryan, the figurehead of the community; home to Aidan McCleary, Patrick’s mentor and friend; home to scores of youngsters and generations of families. But now Evergreen is also home to a sadistic serial killer, someone who is targeting the youngsters of this once peaceful community.
They know the killer lives among them, know that one of their own is tearing this small community apart. They want to deal with it themselves, to track down the killer and deliver their own justice, but can they find him before he rips their home apart?
Evergreen is a serial killer thriller/whodunnit with a macabre and sinister slant. A book not for the faint hearted.
