Author Interview – Tom Skinner
Posted on Friday, October 18, 2013
What are your goals as a writer? Creative and financial freedom and to write fun, positive, happy, colorful books that inspire and uplift my readers. Or at least give them a good laugh.
Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)? Only in my mind which can be a dangerous thing! Any travel is inspiring.
What books have most influenced your life? The Introvert Advantage and The Right to Write – both profound and pertinent in every way.
Can we expect any more books from you in the future? I have a new hardback picture book due late next year called BUS FUSS (New Frontier Publishing) which is a counting book featuring Australian animals.
Have you started another book yet? My own ebook publishing company – Pink Hippo Press – still has three picture books up its sleeve which are awaiting illustrations – Chipper Ripper, Oops Baby Oops and What a Doozey.
What are some of the best tools available today for writers, especially those just starting out? Plagiarism, podcasts and caffeine!
What contributes to making a writer successful? A massive inheritance and 2,386, 984 twitter followers. If not that, then the patience of a saint and the hide of a rhino.
Do you have any advice for writers? There are as many different ways of writing as there are writers. Tune into your own rhythms . Find what works for you. Rinse and repeat.
If you could leave your readers with one bit of wisdom, what would you want it to be? ‘Be like a reed. If you don’t bend you will break.’ Coming from a notoriously uncompromising Taurean I would take this with a grain of salt!
