10.  He has five college degrees including a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Arts in Design (Architecture) from Clemson University, a Master of Science in Architecture from the University of London, and a Certificate in Education (Architecture) and PhD in Architecture (soon-to-be-conferred) from University College London in England.

9.  In addition to being an author, he is an accomplished architect and urban planner who regularly posts to his architecture, urban design and planning blog, The Outlaw Urbanist.

8.  He is also a playwright who has written three plays: The Persistence of Memory, The Truth of Glances, and Song of My Childhood. His first play, The Persistence of Memory, was produced at a theater in St. Louis, Missouri in 1992 when he was only 24 years old. He has plans for a new play… if he can ever find the time to write it.

7.  He is also a published poet who regularly posts his latest poems to The Sovereignty Blog and/or Write and Share, and he is collaborating with two artists on a children’s flipbook, which should be available in Summer 2013.

6.  He converted to Roman Catholicism in 2010 after being raised as a Southern Baptist. Many of his writings draw upon religious imagery and symbolism to layer the material with a rich subtext.

5.  He was raised by a single mother, who instilled in him a love of reading by filling his room with books as a child.

4.  His favorite childhood book was The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper and his motto as an adult is “Don’t dream it, be it” from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Eclectic mix, I know.

3.  He has three tattoos: a Clemson Tiger paw on his right shoulder, an Egyptian Ankh (Symbol of Life and Fertility) on his left calf, and the Elvish inscription on the Ring of Power from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings wrapped around his left bicep.

2.  He compulsively re-reads Tolkien’s The Hobbitt/The Lord of the Rings every couple of years from beginning to end in only a couple of weeks.
